heaven for a while

down by the seaside when we were free
I rode upon your shoulders ever so joyfully
laughing like children when the salt spray licked our skin
we opened wide to see what the tide would bring in
everything was heaven for awhile

I sit alone and paint a picture in my mind
we look like saints but we weren't always kind
now you are holy sacred and sublime
and I'm a lowly tainted human sometimes
but everything was heaven for awhile
oh and we were free
