Tricky Redkin is an indie-pop duo based in Berkeley, CA. Their songs range from childlike and whimsical to wistful and melancholy. Their influences include early Beatles, Syd Barrett, Mazzy Star, the Sundays, though they sometimes describe themselves as a meeting of Belle & Sebastian and Mr. Rogers. They just released their debut album, “Once I Knew an Aardvark,” which sounds like a psychadelic journey through a child’s mind. With a blend of acoustic and electric guitars, occasional strings, a range of percussion, and horns, the album evokes themes of love, innocence, and lonely circus creatures. Blake (formerly of local band Porchlife) sings folky introspective songs with a sweet soft voice, guitar and harmonica. you can hear the influence of some of his faves, such as "iron and wine" and "sufjan stevens." these are songs to listen to on a warm breezy night, with lots of stars and a howling dog!

Helen Chaya's songs are dreamy and rainy with some bright little sunbreaks shining through. she explores lonely landscapes where heartsick drifters find angels at gas stations, and stars appear through ceiling holes. a fan of pretty melodies, her acoustic guitar shimmers with lovely self-taught finger-picking, and unexpected chord changes. "chaya evokes the complexities and ambiguities of love with startlingly original poetic slaps upside the psyche." (derk richardson, sf bay guardian)
